Music Notes for Sunday’s Mass Setting

Born in Vermont in 1981 and reared in Providence, Rhode Island, where he sang as a boy chorister, Nico Muhly is a prolific composer living and working in New York City. His instrumental works have been played throughout the United States and abroad. His choral music has been widely sung by choirs around the world and has been broadcast by the BBC. Muhly’s Bright Mass with Canons is dedicated to John Scott and The Choir of Saint Thomas Church. It was premiered on February 26, 2006, and is featured on the choir’s CD ‘American Voices.’
