The late Anglican clergyman and spiritual writer, Kenneth Leech recounts an Easter Christian story of a person who came to a monk and asked, “’Father, what is prayer?’ The monk held out his hands and flames shot up from his fingers. ‘That is prayer,’ he said. He was a soul on fire, and when necessary he could manifest the fact.” For most of us, we will never experience prayer of that sort, but that does not prevent us from desiring to pray better and to pray deeper.
This four part class taught by Fathers Turner and Spurlock, and Brett Moore and Kari Kristina Reeves continues this Thursday, January 28, with a session on healing prayer. Father Spurlock will lead this session and it will meet in the Chantry Chapel following Choral Evensong and Holy Communion. More details can be found on the church website.
Remaining Session Leaders and Topics
- February 4: Father Turner will lead our third session, taking us further into the experience of prayer through a sensory experience of prayer.
- February 11: Kari Kristina Reeves will lead our final session, exploring and helping us experience the different kinds of prayer.
The classes are free and open to the public.
While not required, we are pleased to recommend a text for the course, Canyon Road: A Book of Prayer written by Kari Reeves. Hardback copies of Kari’s book will be available for sale at each session of the class for a cost of $40, and will also be made available for sale in our bookstore.
