On the calendar, summer begins June 21, at the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. But at Saint Thomas, summer essentially begins the day after the choristers of Saint Thomas Choir School go home for the summer. In 2018, Leaving Sunday was on June 10. That was the last opportunity to hear the full Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys before September.
From June 17 through the end of August, worship at 11am on Sundays is sung by a series of visiting choirs interspersed with appearances by the Gentlemen of the Saint Thomas Choir. In addition, the annual Saint Thomas Girl Choristers’ Course occurs this year in late July. As such, there are two special summer weekday Choral Evensongs on July 24 and July 26 at 5:30pm.
Here are links to the worship schedule for the summer months. Note that throughout the summer. weekday said services continue as always:
After Labor Day (September 3), a new choral season begins, first with weekday Choral Evensongs sung by the Gentlemen of the Choir on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (September 5-6) at 5:30pm, and then with the return of the full Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys on Sunday, September 9 for our Patronal Feast.
We wish everyone a happy summer, and look forward to seeing you at Saint Thomas whenever you are in the city.
