“If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.” 1 Corinthians 12:26

At its heart, intercession is asking prayers of God, for a person, a place, or a particular situation. Although often for others, intercession can include praying for one’s own needs too.

At Saint Thomas Church, we have many different ways of offering such prayer to God. Each day, at the Eucharist, we offer ‘the Prayers of the People’ and Choral Evensong ends with a period of prayer. There are two other ways that we pray specific intercessions at Saint Thomas Church; they are our Sunday Parish Prayer List and our weekly Shrine Prayers at the Shrine of Our Lady of Fifth Avenue.

Shrine Prayers

On Mondays through Saturdays at 12pm we offer prayers and intercessions at the shrine of Our Lady of Fifth Avenue. These prayers precede the 12:10pm Eucharist and include the traditional recitation of the Angelus, prayers from the Diocesan and Anglican Cycle of Prayer for Dioceses around the world, and intercessions left either in the church or by filling out the form below.

The list of intercessions for Shrine Prayers grows over the week as more prayers are added, so a prayer sent in over the weekend will be prayed for everyday from Monday to Saturday. The list starts again every Monday.

Sunday Parish Prayer List

On Sundays a parish prayer list is published and distributed at mass. This list is intended to be taken home so these individuals can be prayed for throughout the week. We do not read out the names of the Parish Prayer List at mass. If you would like prayers said aloud for a particular individual or special intention, please consider submitting a Shrine Prayer request (see left).

If you wish to submit a name for the printed Sunday Prayer List you can fill out the form below.

A Prayer of St. Chrysostom

Almighty God, who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication unto thee; and hast promised through thy well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name thou wilt be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions of thy servants as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.
